I don't live in an area close to any acupuncturists so have ramped up my personal acupressure activities by bringing moxa to the party. It's now the life of the party. Qi everywhere! Crazy times.
To the uninitiated, moxa is a blend of mugwort, wormwood and sage or something to that effect. Sometimes it's all mugwort. This dried plant material is rolled into little cigars and held near (not touching) acupuncture points. The effect it that it is energizing and pain relieving and tonifying. It stimulates circulation to the area -- this, I suppose, means both blood and qi.
Here's an example of moxibustion.
Thus far I have used moxa cigars or "joss sticks" like this:
In fact, they were exactly like those, which is to say that I use that brand of moxa.
I have tried some points on my chest and some points near my knees and have really enjoyed it thus far.
