i So know what you're talking about! And then I know some more what you're talking about.
For me, I often encounter that voice in people who work in sales or technical support. Customer care, perhaps. What galls me is that I always, always identify with them in the capacities I mentioned, but I often have a complaint at the time, placing me and this Professionally Voiced individual at odds. And I also know the Company Government--let's just say corporate America--has pushed them out onto the front lines as basically a human shield. To carry the analogy further, the CG hasn't even given these folks their own respective rifles.
And the heart of the heart of this *hangup is that I seem to be able to articulate this better than your average Joe, and it actually works against my peace of mind; compounds my cathexis to some kind of threshold past which it snowballs. Seeing the whole picture does not help me, it hurts me and makes me feel more powerless. Also, I am a corporate American and the company I work for probably does this somewhere and I could probably do something about it at least nominally but I may not. Having said this, I will though if I ever come across the chance to do so, though I still probably won't if it requires extra effort. All makes it worse.
By "their own respective rifles" I mean the power to do anything by way of a real change, such as the power to issue a refund or whatever, and this disempowerment is by design. And then no frickin' other way to contact the company. Like, the shield of bullshit is complete because perhaps the company in question has an email address in addition to phone, but that just seems to go into a black hole. And let me just say, et cetera and call it a comment.
I have to be careful on Facebook. Since I don't go on there very often, and I see it as a way to at least have a chance at mattering (negative advertising--but I'm always honest)--I am cautious about seeming like that's all my life consists of. Got to make sure and post, you know, cat photos in between there.
(* unintentional pun that I left in after noticing it)
